In this video I look at how you can run a full PowerPoint presentation from your Microsoft Surface RT tablet PC.
The key thing about Windows RT over other mobile operating systems is the inclusion of a full version of Office 2013 which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
This means if you go to present a PowerPoint that you made on your desktop it will show the same on your Windows tablet as well – animations included (something you wont get for sure on the cut down editions on other tablet PCs).
The other thing that surface holds above all others is its inclusion of a full USB port and mini HDMI (adaptable to VGA) port – this added advantage of a USB port means you can use your wireless presentation remote just as you would on a notebook PC.
So to find out more sit back relax and watch the video above 🙂
Thanks for the video. Will embedded video (.avi and .mov) play on Surface’s PowerPoint?
Many tutorials recommend converting ppt to video first, but I find it inefficient.
You can embedd video into a Office 2013 PowerPoint (on a Surface) just as you would any other version of power point – .avi, .mov, .wmv and so on all included out of the box 🙂
I would like to know where you purchased the wireless presentation remote and the name of the brand. Thanks for the video, helped a lot.
Its just a normal Kensington one like this – http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kensington-33374-Wireless-Presenter-Pointer/dp/B000FPGP4U/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1386847204&sr=8-3-spell&keywords=presentation+remote+control+logitec
Hi…can any micro HDMI to VGA adapter cable be used on surface rt..? I can only find surface micro HDMI to VGA adapter for surface pro…Thanks for the video, it really helps.
You can use others; however, you will need to take a bit of sandpaper/knife to one of the edges of the adapter as Surface RT/Pro has an angle around the edge that would prevent it from fitting in properly otherwise.
Thanks for this reassuring video. But re your reply to “curiousIT” above, I have found that I an embedded video (eg .avi) will NOT play.
Any hints, tricks or other advice?
I found that the Kensington Presenter would not work on Surface RT 2, Windows 8.1. The USB stick was recognized under “Other Devices” and the Presenter would make clicking sounds but would not advance the animation in either Presenter View or Reading View. Any suggestions?
The Kensington Presenter works fine on my Windows 7 & 10 computers.
