{"id":990,"date":"2012-09-09T13:53:18","date_gmt":"2012-09-09T12:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=990"},"modified":"2012-12-31T13:29:49","modified_gmt":"2012-12-31T13:29:49","slug":"gaming-pc-for-350-take-that-cnet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=990","title":{"rendered":"Gaming PC for \u00a3350 &#8211; take that Cnet!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>UPDATE<\/strong><\/span> &#8211; This article has been replaced by <a title=\"Basic Gaming PC under \u00a3350 \u2013 Dec 2012\" href=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=1234\">this one<\/a> (<a title=\"Basic Gaming PC under \u00a3350 \u2013 Dec 2012\" href=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=1234\">link<\/a>), with a newer,\u00a0faster\u00a0A10 APU!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/reviews.cnet.co.uk\/desktops\/how-to-build-a-budget-gaming-pc-for-under-350-50009095\/#comment-submit\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-991\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hownottobuildagamingpc.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hownottobuildagamingpc.jpg 600w, https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/hownottobuildagamingpc-300x72.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few days ago an article posted on the so called consumer tech blog <a href=\"http:\/\/reviews.cnet.co.uk\/desktops\/how-to-build-a-budget-gaming-pc-for-under-350-50009095\/#comment-submit\">Cnet.co.uk<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/reviews.cnet.co.uk\/desktops\/how-to-build-a-budget-gaming-pc-for-under-350-50009095\/#comment-submit\">link<\/a>)\u00a0seriously annoyed me; they claimed that for a little less than \u00a3350 you could build a gaming PC.<\/p>\n<p>The things that got me about their article were<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use of a seriously underpowered CPU<\/strong> &#8211; Gaming isn&#8217;t just using the GPU, you need a CPU to match &#8211; the Intel Pentium G840 is\u00a0at the low end of the Intels CPUs, a much better option (if you want to stick with Intel would be a i3\/i5)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not factoring in postage<\/strong> &#8211; The article states &#8216;\u00a3294.05 plus postage&#8217; &#8211; well that postage pushes your PC over the \u00a3350 mark, what makes it worse is the title of the article is &#8216;How to build a budget gaming PC for under \u00a3350&#8217;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Saying that you can get a copy of Windows 7 for \u00a350<\/strong> &#8211; The link to Windows 7 they provide is for\u00a0a UPGRADE copy, you would not be able to use this to install a fresh copy of Windows on your PC<\/li>\n<li><strong>An inaccuracy about RAM<\/strong> &#8211; &#8216;but doubling up to 8GB will help out with general computing tasks when you&#8217;re not tackling the latest shooters.&#8217; come on! General computing tasks requiring more RAM than a PC game? I think not!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So then\u00a0here ends the rant \ud83d\ude42 here also begins\u00a0a proper gaming PC that you could build for less than \u00a3350 (<strong>\u00a3330.91<\/strong> including postage at time of posting).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-994\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/howtobuildagamingpc.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/howtobuildagamingpc.jpg 600w, https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/howtobuildagamingpc-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First a few little mentions &#8211; true gaming PCs use the latest in high performance components, if you are looking for something to show off to your friends then you need to consider spending a minimum of \u00a3600 on any gaming PC. Further to this the PC below runs Windows 7 which will soon be replaced by Windows 8 so you might just want to hold off and wait for that ;).<br \/>\nLast but not least, you may well be able to find these parts cheaper elsewhere I&#8217;m just using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=\">Novatech<\/a> as an example because I like them.<\/p>\n<p>Anywhos here is my part list-<\/p>\n<p><strong>APU &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.novatech.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fcomponents%2Fprocessors%2Famda4%2Fa6%2Fa8seriesfm1socket%2Fad3870wngxbox.html\">AMD A8-3870K<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; \u00a389.99<\/strong><br \/>\nAPUs combine high performance graphics and processing on one chip. This particular chip is quad core clocked at 3.0ghz per core and comes with 400 graphics processing cores clocked at a total of 600mhz. If all of that was mumbo jumbo to you take a look at <a href=\"http:\/\/hothardware.com\/Reviews\/AMD-A83870K-Unlocked-Llano-QuadCore-APU-\/?page=1\">this review<\/a> of the AMD A8-3870k.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Motherboard &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.novatech.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fcomponents%2Fmotherboards%2Famdfm1a55chipsetmotherboards%2Fa55m-p33.html\">MSI A55M-P33<\/a> &#8211; \u00a339.98<\/strong><br \/>\nA pretty simple motherboard which has the option to install a even more powerful graphics card than the one on the APU later on if you ever need.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RAM &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.novatech.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fcomponents%2Fmemory-pc%2Fddr3-pc3-12800%2F1600mhz%2Fcmz8gx3m2a1600c9.html\">Corsair Vengeance 8GB<\/a> &#8211; \u00a337.99<\/strong><br \/>\nRAM is as cheap as chips (nothing to do with it being made out of chips) so why not have more (than the 4GB of the Cnet machine)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Case &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.novatech.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fcomponents%2Fcases%2Fcases%2Fcorona-black.html\">Novatech Corona Micro ATX<\/a> &#8211; \u00a325.98<\/strong><br \/>\nPretty basic case that I have used in the past, as the APU uses power quite efficiently don&#8217;t worry about overloading the 450W PSU which comes included with the system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hard Drive &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.novatech.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fcomponents%2Fharddrives-internal%2Fsata500gbto1tb%2Fwd5000azrx.html\">Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB<\/a> &#8211; \u00a356.99<\/strong><br \/>\nA easy part to save some extra money on if you need to (just go for a lower capacity hard drive).<\/p>\n<p><strong>OS &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=957&amp;awinaffid=88926&amp;clickref=buildgamingpc&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.novatech.co.uk%2Fproducts%2Fsoftware%2Fgfc-02050.html\">Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit<\/a> &#8211; \u00a379.98<\/strong><br \/>\nOne sec! Crave said I could have Windows 7 for \u00a350 so why am I forking out nearly \u00a380!
