{"id":10496,"date":"2017-12-19T10:34:16","date_gmt":"2017-12-19T10:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=10496"},"modified":"2017-12-19T10:36:34","modified_gmt":"2017-12-19T10:36:34","slug":"rebooting-a-hpe-aruba-5400r-zl2-with-dual-management-modules-following-a-firmware-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=10496","title":{"rendered":"Rebooting a HPE Aruba 5400R zl2 with dual Management Modules following a Firmware Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you have ever seen this post <a href=\"https:\/\/myworldofit.net\/?p=9531\">Server Room &#8211; The latest<\/a> you will notice we have a pretty awesome HPE Aruba 5400R zl2 Core Switch; however (at least until now), I&#8217;ve been yet to find a really simple guide which shows the best way to reboot the management modules following a firmware update.<\/p>\n<p>So after much research and a live firmware update this morning (last time round I just reloaded both management modules at the same time) I&#8217;m going to go with the following plan.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Update the firmware (wait a few minutes for the firmware to copy from the primary to the secondary module &#8211; this is automatic)<\/li>\n<li>Reboot the standby module using the boot standby command (and wait a few minutes)<\/li>\n<li>Confirm that the standby module is now running the new firmware with&nbsp; show redundancy<\/li>\n<li>Failover from the active to the standby module &#8211; this caused a few seconds of downtime in my environment<\/li>\n<li>Once the failover is complete the previously active module will now also be running the new firmware<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>For easy copy and paste see the commands on GitHub below along with the screenshot sequence which shows you how this will look on a switch running the 16.x branch firmware.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-gist\"><script src=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/jamesfed\/616aeaea2ac4b3f28a5c06e08ef1ccaa.js\"><\/script><noscript>View the code on <a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/jamesfed\/616aeaea2ac4b3f28a5c06e08ef1ccaa\">Gist<\/a>.<\/noscript><\/div>\nngg_shortcode_0_placeholder\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you have ever seen this post Server Room &#8211; The latest you will notice we have a pretty awesome HPE Aruba 5400R zl2 Core Switch; however (at least until now), I&#8217;ve been yet to find a really simple guide which shows the best way to reboot the management modules following a firmware update.
